Arsenal are closing in on their first signing of the summer transfer window.
Last week the Gunners started making moves, with bids submitted for as many as four players including Brighton and Hove Albion central defender Ben White.
As reported by football.london, a £40m offer was rejected, but a decision has been made to return with a second offer – likely to be around the £45m mark – in order to secure White’s signature relatively quickly.
It remains to be seen if £45m will be enough to reach an agreement with the Seagulls, but Arsenal aren’t solely focusing on concluding a deal for the 23-year-old.
Highly-rated Anderlecht midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga is also on Mikel Arteta and Edu’s radar, with an opening offer of £12.9m also knocked back.
Although, just like White, Arsenal are keen to wrap up a deal as soon as possible.
With that said, football.london understands there is cause for optimism that a deal can be reached as reports in Belgium claim Lokonga wants to seal a move to north London and that personal terms have already been agreed.
Furthermore, Het Laatste Nieuws claim that Anderlecht are still waiting for Arsenal’s second offer as €20m (£17.1m) will be enough to move this deal along.
So what type of player will the Gunners be getting if they match Anderlecht’s asking price?
Well, judging by the image above via who scored, Lokonga’s strengths include passing, through balls, dribbling, long shots, concentration and ball interceptions.
Meanwhile, his playing style is described as someone who draws a lot of fouls from the opposition and is not afraid to take shots from long range.
The summer window is officially open, and it’s going to be tough to keep up with the comings and goings in and out of the Emirates.

All of which describes the perfect midfielder, but whilst the image doesn’t list any weaknesses, Lokonga’s manager – Man City legend Vincent Kompany – has suggested the 21-year-old is still working on his defensive work and winning his duels.
“With his qualities at his age, he stands out for me,” Vincent Kompany told Sporza. “Will Sambi win his duels? Is he improving his defensive work? You ask yourself these questions as a coach. Well, I’ve seen him make a lot of progress in that area.
“Who knows, Sambi may even make the national selection for the European Championship. It would give him a chance to secure a top transfer in the long term – hopefully not too early.”
