Allan Saint-Maximin makes Joe Willock admission as Newcastle eye permanent move for Arsenal star

Allan Saint-Maximin has opened up on his Newcastle United team-mate Joe Willock – who has been in fine form since moving to Tyneside from Arsenal on loan.

Willock has been outstanding since making the temporary switch to the Magpies in January, with the Gunners midfielder scoring in every one of the last six games in the Premier League.

That red-hot form has persuaded Steve Bruce to do whatever he can to sign the 21-year-old on a permanent basis in the summer. Bruce has admitted he will talk to Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta about a deal for the England Under-21 international.

Now, Saint-Maximin – another one of Newcastle’s standout performers this season – has been speaking to Stadium Astro about Willock’s ability.

The French winger said: “He is an amazing player. He runs fast, he can score goals, his technique, he has got good ability.

“For me, he is a really, really good player. We need more players like him, I think, if we want to be in the top 10.”

Newcastle legend Alan Shearer has also been raving about the Arsenal loanee and offered his help to his former club to try and persuade the midfielder to move to St. James’ Park permanently.

Shearer said: “I’m with Ian Wright on most Saturday nights, and Ian speaks to Joe and is a little bit of a mentor to him. I keep saying to him if he ever needs or wants anything, my number is there.

“I would love him to sample 52,000 on Saturday afternoon at Newcastle when things are going well because there’s no better place in the world of football than St James’ Park when that’s happening.

“It might be out of his hands, but I really hope we try to break the bank to bring him because he’s been incredible over the last few months.”
