Chelsea have confirmed the departure of Myles Peart-Harris, with the 18-year-old joining newly-promoted Premier League side Brentford for an undisclosed fee.
Peart-Harris joined the Blues as an eight-year-old and rose up through the academy ranks at Cobham. He featured regularly for the development squad last season, making 23 appearances in which he scored 11 goals.
The versatile midfielder signed a three-year professional deal with Chelsea in September 2019 but the Blues were hopeful of extending that last season.
However, the Blues were unable to come to an agreement with Peart-Harris, with the youngster taking the decision his long-term future lay away from Stamford Bridge.
As a result, Chelsea were forced into negotiating with clubs over a transfer this summer rather than losing Peart-Harris on a free next summer.
football.londonreported earlier this week a Premier League side were leading the race for Peart-Harris. That was Brentford who have now completed a deal for the 18-year-old.
Thomas Frank, Brentford head coach, said: “Myles is a very talented young player and an exciting signing for us. We see him playing as an ‘eight’ in our system and he fits the position profile perfectly for that. He is a dynamic midfield player, and he drives forward with the ball.
“Myles has great quality on the ball. He can score goals and deliver assists for us. He is great at arriving in the penalty area at the right time. There is also lots of development potential for our coaches to work with.
“We think there will be lots of areas where he will get better, particularly defensively, but he has some great attributes, and we believe we can maximise his potential.”
Peart-Harris is the third Chelsea academy graduate to move on this week. Yesterday, Lewis Bate’s switch from Chelsea to Leeds United was confirmed.
The Blues initially received around £1.5million for the 18-year-old midfielder but there are significant add-ons and a sell-on clause included in the deal.
Centre-back Dynel Simeu has also agreed a move to Southampton, although that has yet to be officially announced.
The 19-year-old was out of contract this summer but Chelsea would of been due compensation had the two clubs not come to an agreement over a fee that could reach £1.5million.
Henry Lawrence is also set for a loan move in the coming days. The versatile midfielder has attracted interest from a number of League One clubs.
