Former Tottenham goalkeeper Brad Friedel has backed Antonio Conte to prove his doubters wrong should he get appointed as Spurs’ new head coach.
football.london understands that the Italian is likely to be appointed by Daniel Levy, having left Inter Milan last week.
The response from Spurs fans was mixed, with some backing his arrival, whilst some were doubtful considering his seemingly somewhat explosive spells across Europe in recent seasons with Juventus, Chelsea and, of course, Inter.
However, Friedel, who made 67 appearances for the north London club before retiring in 2014, believes that four-time Serie A winner Conte could well be popular with the Spurs fanbase despite some initial scepticism.
Talking to Sky Sports, the former American international said: “No appointment is ever going to go down perfect with everyone. I just think you have to look at the history and the track record and winning trophies and winning leagues.
“He’s just coming off winning the league with Inter Milan so you have to look at that. No hire no matter who it is, is going to please every single supporter.
“Proof is always in the pudding on results and if he is appointed and has a strong pre-season, he’ll slowly get people on his side.”
