Antonio Conte gives injury update on Cristian Romero ahead of Tottenham’s clash with NS Mura

Antonio Conte has revealed that Cristian Romero’s injury could be serious which will be a major blow for Tottenham, while Dane Scarlett is also not available for the NS Mura clash.

The Italian has already led his side to two wins and a draw in his first three games in charge, including a first league win with his new Spurs side against Leeds on Sunday.

Whilst his side managed to come back from a goal deficit, he is set to have to deal with a number of injuries in the weeks ahead.

The first international break of the season gave Tottenham a number of injury problems as well as the South American trio who had to isolate before their return to the capital and the third disruption of the campaign has also caused some issues.

Cristian Romero went off in the 53rd minute of his final game of the break with Argentina and after missing Sunday’s game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Conte provided an update on his injury.

“About Cristian Romero, we’re waiting for another scan. Honestly, I think his injury is serious,” the Italian revealed in his pre match press conference.

“We have to wait. I don’t know now the time he needs to recovery. Surely his injury is more serious than Giovani Lo Celso or Dane Scarlett.

“We have to wait for the next scan and then the doctor can give more information on the dates for his recovery,” he added.

That will be a major blow to the Spurs side, as the defender has broken straight into the starting XI since his arrival in the summer and has become a key part of the back line.

Antonio Conte has said Dane Scarlett picked up a knock whilst on international duty.

Lo Celso also picked up a knock during his international duty, a blow for the midfielder who has been struggling to get into the regular line-up for the Lilywhites so far this season.

Scarlett has been regularly included in the matchday squad so far in this campaign and at just 17-years-old already seems to have quality beyond his years.

However, the youngster hasn’t been spotted in training and wasn’t included in the squad for the Leeds game or the recent Spurs U23s match, after coming back from international duty with the England U19s and Conte explained why.

Scarlett in this moment is not available,” the 52-year-old admitted. “During the international break he had a problem in his ankle and is not available.”

Despite this being a blow for the youngster, Conte was still full of praise on what he has seen so far.

“He’s injured, in the same way like Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso. But we’re talking about a young player with great talent and for sure I can’t wait to work with him and to know him much better.”

Conte will be hoping his players can all be back to full fitness, as soon as possible.

However it does mean the Italian will be forced to make full use of the depth in his squad when his side travel to Slovenia for Thursday’s Europa Conference League game.

Tottenham will want to get maximum points from the fixture, against NS Mura, to allow them to secure qualification to the next round of the European competition.
