Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger faces an uncertain future, with the German now in the final 12 months of his contract at Stamford Bridge.

The 28-year-old, who starred under Thomas Tuchel in the second half of the 2020/21 season for the Blues, sees his deal expire at the end of June 2022.

Now, according to Sky Sports, the Germany international is ‘weighing up his options’ ahead of a potential move away from west London, either between now and the end of the month, or in January, where he will be able to talk to foreign clubs over a possible pre-contract agreement.

Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are both said to be monitoring Rudiger‘s situation at Chelsea and could look to take advantage of the limited time remaining on his contract.

However, the German revealed earlier this week that he and the west London club have begun negotiations over new terms on a contract extension.

Speaking ahead of the UEFA Super Cup tie against Villarreal, Rudiger said: “As I said before, I wanted to concentrate on the Euros then after I come back, talks can start.

“That is what has happened for now. Talks have begun and we will see what time brings.”

Chelsea boss Tuchel, when speaking towards the end of last season, said that Rudiger is going the right way towards earning himself a new deal at Stamford Bridge.

“Nothing is better than what he is doing now for a new contract,” the Blues manager said at the end of last season.

“If he wants to have a new contract, he has our full support to stay at the club.

“He is speaking with his performances. He has been amazing since day one.”
