Arsenal are in the midst of one of their busiest transfer windows in recent memory.
The Gunners have already completed the signings of Nuno Tavares, Ben White and Albert Sambi Lokonga from Benfica, Brighton and Anderlecht respectively as chief executive Edu looks to overhaul an underperforming squad.
As reported by football.london back in May, the Brazilian also wants to add at least three more players, with a right-back, a goalkeeper and an attacking midfielder all on the shortlist.
To complete additional big-money signings, the north Londoners must first offload several senior players, with the likes of Willian, Lucas Torreira and Alexandre Lacazette all thought to be surplus to requirements at the Emirates Stadium.
The latter only has 12 months remaining on his current contract with the club and any potential departure could even help Arsenal fund the signing of Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez, who is reportedly highly regarded within the club.
Reports from Italy have claimed that Spanish giants Atletico Madrid are also in the race to sign the Argentine frontman but the Gunners could fix two problems by offering Lacazette to Diego Simeone’s side on the cheap, allowing them to have a free-run at Martinez.
football.london understands that Atletico tried to sign the Frenchman last summer but ultimately failed to cough up the money that Arsenal requested and a deal eventually fell through.
If Edu can sell the 30-year-old to the reigning La Liga champions on the cheap then perhaps Atletico would then cool their interest in Martinez given they play the same position.
The Inter striker notched an impressive 17 goals and six assists in Serie A last term to help guide the Nerrazurri to their first title in ten years.
