Arsenal can repeat Martin Odegaard transfer plan to sign wonderkid ‘better than Frenkie de Jong’

Arsenal fans were left more than a little disappointed by the club’s lack of activity during the January transfer window.

But it was not unexpected, given the signings made in the summer, with the Gunners amongst the biggest spenders in European football, bringing in Ben White, Aaron Ramsdale, Martin Odegaard, Nuno Tavares, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Takehiro Tomiyasu for a combined total of around £159million.

And one of those signings could point to a potential future move for Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Odegaard joined the club on a permanent deal from Real Madrid, having been on loan with the Gunners last season.

And, with Dani Ceballos having trodden the same path, not to mention the likes of Mesut Ozil and Jose Antonio Reyes making the same move in the past, there is a connection between the two clubs that could lead to more transfers.

Step forward Eduardo Camavinga.

The teen sensation was linked with a move to the Premier League last summer, before eventually signing a deal with Real Madrid for around £34million.

The Frenchman put pen to paper on a six-year deal at the Bernabeu, making any imminent move unlikely, but should Arsenal be interested, they could pull off a similar move to the one they did with Odegaard and Reyes and bring Camavinga in on loan first before making the move permanent.

That may prove difficult if Camavinga lives up to his billing of course.

He has started just seven La Liga games for Real Madrid, coming off the bench a further ten times, suggesting he has not quite managed to break the midfield dominance of Luka Modric, Casemiro and Toni Kroos.

However, Kroos’ injury led to him starting against Real Sociedad on Saturday and he did not disappoint, scoring his second Los Blancos goal with a superb strike from range to open the scoring in a 4-1 win.

That led to some fans on social media suggesting he was better than Frenkie de Jong – the Barcelona midfielder who has also been linked with a move to the Premier League and Arsenal after a difficult time with the Catalan giants.

@_adofoasa_ on Twitter said: “Camavinga is a better midfielder than Pedri and Frenkie De Jong combined.”

@mfamawamathole said: “What do you think of Camavinga? Would he not be an ideal signing for Arsenal? He looks like an Arteta player to me.”

football.london reported in the summer that rumours of Camavinga going to the Emirates Stadium were ‘absolute rubbish’ and while that was the case then, who’s to say it will remain that way heading into this summer’s transfer window and beyond?
