Arsenal fans fume about Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold after Everton penalty decision

Arsenal may not have been in action today, but that has not stopped Gunners fans from getting angry.

The Merseyside derby may not directly affect Arsenal, given that Liverpool and Everton are both ahead of the Gunners in the Premier League at the moment, but one decision in the game certainly caught the eye of several Arsenal supporters.

With Liverpool trailing 1-0 at Anfield and chasing an equaliser, Everton caught their city rivals on the break, with the Toffees awarded a penalty after Trent Alexander-Arnold tangled with Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the box.

Referee Chris Kavanagh pointed to the spot and the decision was confirmed following a review by the video assistant referee, with Gylfi Sigurdsson converting the spot kick to give Everton a 2-0 advantage.

But the fact that there was no further punishment for Alexander-Arnold has sparked a reaction from Arsenal fans, who are unhappy as they questioned what the difference was between the Liverpool defender’s challenge and David Luiz’s in the recent defeat against Wolves.

Here’s what some Arsenal fans have been saying on social media.

Luiz was sent off in the 2-1 defeat at Molineux after being adjudged to have commited a last-man foul in first half stoppage time on Wolves striker Willian Jose.

The contact appeared to be minimal, but the decision of referee Craig Pawson was upheld by the VAR Jon Moss, with Luiz sent off.

Arsenal appealed the decision, but were unsuccessful in getting the suspension overturned, with Luiz missing the 1-0 defeat against Aston Villa as a result.
