Arsenal fans recall what happened between Rob Holding and Sadio Mane amid David Luiz injury blow

David Luiz has been ruled out of Arsenal’s Premier League clash against Liverpool.

It was confirmed via the club’s website on Friday afternoon that a knee injury will keep the centre-back out of the big game at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday night.

“Right knee. David has experienced discomfort in his right knee and is being further assessed,” a statement on Arsenal.com reads. “David will not be available for Saturday’s match.”

David Luiz has been a regular in the Arsenal side over the past couple of months and his absence leaves manager Mikel Arteta with a big decision to make.

As Gabriel Magalhaes and Pablo Mari are both left-footed, it’s almost certain that the Spaniard will look for someone to fill the role as the right-sided centre-back.

As a result, it will be between Rob Holding and Calum Chambers.

Speaking of the former, he had a rather interesting game in the corresponding fixture against Liverpool last season – a 2-1 win for the Gunners thanks to goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Reiss Nelson.

Tasked with keeping tabs on Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane in particular, barring a couple of hairy moments in the first-half, Holding barely put a foot wrong in the 95 minutes he was on the pitch.

This included an incident with Sane which left the Senegal international on the turf.

Such was Holding’s impressive display that some Arsenal fans were suggesting that he got the better of the Reds’ goalscorer at the Emirates Stadium.

And now there’s a chance the pair could renew their battle, some Gunners supporters have been recalling that incident.
