Arsenal fans sent into transfer frenzy after what Sander Berge did on Instagram

Not many Premier League clubs will be planning as many changes to their respective squad as Arsenal are this summer.

After a below-par Premier League campaign, which concluded with the Gunners missing out on European football for the first time in 25 years, despite winning their last five matches, manager Mikel Arteta is determined to make wholesale changes in a bid to make his side a more competitive force next season.

In the end, they finished eighth in the table, which is well below-par for a club of Arsenal’s stature, highlighting just how big a summer Arteta, working in tandem alongside technical director Edu, faces this summer.

Video Unavailable understands that the north London outfit will be in the market for at least five new faces, as Arteta looks to strengthen his squad across the board. However, drafting in new signings will come as a result of some players leaving, with the likes of Lucas Torreira, Matteo Guendouzi, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Eddie Nketiah all understood to be allowed to leave on permanent deals.

Should Torriera, Guendouzi and Maitland-Niles all go, plus taking into account that Dani Ceballos’ time at the Emirates Stadium has drawn to a close, Arsenal could find themselves light on midfield options.

But in a bid to avoid that situation occurring, Arteta is already identifying potential targets, with both Brighton & Hove Albion’s Yves Bissouma and Sander Berge of Sheffield United on his radar. What is even more encouraging for Arteta, it is understood that both players would be happy to move to the Emirates Stadium if deals could be agreed.

Whilst Brighton ace Bissouma has former Lille team-mate Gabriel Magalhaes to turn to for advice about life in north London, Berge, who has a release clause in his Blades contract worth around £35million, can speak with fellow countryman Martin Odegaard, who has just completed his short-term loan spell in north London from Real Madrid.

And that is exactly what Berge has done. On Monday evening, the former Genk man, who has spent much of this season on the sidelines through injury, uploaded a picture to his Instagram story of him and Odegaard out together for a meal.

Whilst, of course, the bottom line of this meeting is that it was a meal out between two very good friends, something that is normal for any friends in any walk of life to do, it is quite possible that the pair discussed life at the Emirates Stadium, with Odegaard potentially trying to convince him to make the move this summer.

Berge is unlikely to stay at Sheffield United following their relegation to the Championship and is considered as a player still capable of reaching new heights, as he is only 23-years-old.

Arsenal’s new pearl ‘citrine pale yellow’ is available to buy now from ArsenalDirect.

Purchases will be exclusive to Arsenal and kit manufacturers Adidas until May 20.

The jersey is inspired from an old classic from the club’s past, celebrating 50 years since the club won the league and FA Cup double.

But whilst Berge would be happy to move to Arsenal if the opportunity was presented to him, the future of Odegaard remains unclear. Sunday’s 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion marked the final game of his loan spell, but Arteta is keen to keep hold of him this summer, as the attacking-midfield role is one that the Spaniard wishes to strengthen most.

If the Gunners strike lucky with Real Madrid and get to keep hold of Odegaard, either on loan for another season or on a permanent deal, it could entice Berge to make the switch and link-up with his fellow Norwegian.

During his spell in north London, Odegaard made 20 appearances, scoring two goals and claiming two assists.
