Eight key player decisions Arteta and Edu face
It’s not just potential incomings that will dominate the summer transfer window at Arsenal.
Martin Odegaard is just one of several players being linked with a move after impressing during his loan spell from Real Madrid, but there are no certainties that he will be allowed to return for another season at the very least.
But whilst Mikel Arteta is desperate to strengthen his first-team squad, an overhaul of those deemed surplus to requirements is also in the pipeline.
As a result, some big decisions must be made by Arteta and Gunners technical director Edu this summer.
football.london takes a look at the eight Arsenal players who will technically be classed as senior players by the Premier League next season – and assess what the likely outcome of their future could be.
Aouar transfer theory
Arsenal fan transfer theories are already in full swing ahead of the upcoming summer window.
The latest one is rather brilliant and it involves Gunners manager Mikel Arteta, defender William Saliba and Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar who was linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium last summer.
There’s a theory that Arteta sent Saliba on loan to Nice to score against Lyon on the final day of the Ligue 1 season last Sunday to stop them from playing in the Champions League next season.
Saliba headed home the winner that earned Nice a 3-2 win at the Groupama Stadium and fans think the reason for his loan move was to lower Aouar’s price-tag so that Arsenal can afford to sign him this summer.
It just so happens that L’Equipe now claim Aouar will be available for between £22m-£25m this summer – down from £53.3m.

Arsenal ‘favourites’ to sign Tapsoba
Speaking of Saliba, his chances of first-team football at Arsenal next season could be under threat amid talk that Arteta wants to sign another central defender.
Reports in Italy, as per Sport Witness claim the Gunners manager has his eye on Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba.
A £16.2m signing in January 2020, the 22-year-old made 39 appearances across all competitions and has been linked to big clubs such as Manchester United in the past.
And despite previous reports suggesting an ‘astronomical fee’ would be needed to convince Leverkusen to let him go, Arsenal have apparently ‘manifested a strong interest’ in Tapsoba and are ‘favourites’ to sign him.
But with funds expected to be limited for the Gunners, it may be a case of Leverkusen softening their stance.
David Luiz’s imminent departure does leave Arsenal a little short at centre-back, although Saliba’s return can help the club save millions this summer.
