Arsenal could be on the verge of landing another significant boost as they attempt to sign Manuel Locatelli this summer, with Premier League rivals Liverpool about to play a big part.
The Gunners have been linked with a move for the Italian throughout the summer transfer window following his starring role for Italy in their victorious Euro 2020 campaign.
So far, a transfer has yet to come to fruition with Arsenal also facing considerable competition from Juventus in the race for Locatelli’s signature.
Their task could well be bolstered though by Liverpool failing in a similar move for another Sassuolo star in the form of Domenico Berardi.
According to Corriere dello Sport, the Reds are interested in signing the winger as Jurgen Klopp attempts to bolster his forward line. Should they be unsuccessful in that task, this could see an exit for Locatelli firmly on the table.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Serie A outfit Sassuolo are only inclined to lose one key player this summer, with the two most likely candidates of course being Berardi and Locatelli.
He said: “I think it would be difficult seeing Berardi leaving Sassuolo this summer because they are going to lose Locatelli so losing also Domenico Berardi is not in Sassuolo style so I don’t see Berardi leaving.”
With Berardi seemingly unlikely to leave, this could see Locatelli cleared for an exit and with Arsenal seemingly hovering, the chances of a move to the Emirates Stadium could increase.
The news is the latest boost to Arsenal’s chances of signing Locatelli. Klopp’s Liverpool are already pivotal in any potential move for the midfielder with reports suggesting that Sassuolo are eyeing Reds midfielder Marko Grujic as a potential replacement should he depart the Mapei Stadium this summer.
