Arsenal have three contenders to claim coveted number 10 shirt after special requests made

Alexandre Lacazette has made a special request to become Arsenal’s next No.10.

The iconic shirt number became vacant at the Emirates Stadium during the January transfer window after Mesut Ozil‘s move to Fenerbahce was completed.

And several members of the Arsenal first-team squad have already shown an interest in replacing the German playmaker – in terms of squad numbers – for the beginning of the 2021/22 season.

According to ESPN, Lacazette is at the front of the queue which could be a clue towards his future as there has been talk of him leaving this summer with a year left on his deal.

It’s no secret that Lacazette favours no.10.

Taking to social media to indirectly deliver his verdict on Ozil’s move to Fenerbahce – before it had been completed – the Frenchman appeared to have given the deal his seal of approval.

Just so he could lay claim to the No.10 shirt.

As seen in his Instagram Stories, Lacazette posted an image of himself and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from a training session at London Colney with a caption that reads: “When you both want the number 10,” with an emoji that many can relate to.

In addition, taking to Instagram shortly after Ozil was given the no.10 ahead of the 2018/19 season, Lacazette joked that he was the real owner of the shirt number after posing for a picture wearing the midfielder’s training top.

“The Real Number 10,” Lacazette posted.” @m10_official sorry bro.”

However, it seems he won’t get the chance to wear No.10 at Arsenal and nor will on-loan midfielder Martin Odegaard if he joins permanently this summer.

Prior to taking the No.11 upon arriving in January from La Liga giants Real Madrid, it was reported in Spain that he had initially requested to wear No.10.

But the report claims that it was explained to Odegaard that No.10 has already been earmarked for Emile Smith Rowe.

The attacking midfielder is in talks over a new contract with the Gunners and it would appear that the decision for him to be the club’s next No.10 has already been made.
