Former Arsenal defender Lauren has urged his old side to sign Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic.
The Gunners are making a continued push to sign the Serbia international this month, football.london understands, and technical director Edu is said to be extremely keen to make the deal happen.
Head coach Mikel Arteta is also a big fan of the 21-year-old, who he sees as a long-term replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who was relieved of his captaincy duties last month following a disciplinary breach.
Fellow forwards Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are also into the final six months of their contracts at the Emirates Stadium, with neither appearing close to signing a new deal with the club.
Now, Lauren, who was the right-back during Arsenal‘s iconic 2003/04 ‘Invincibles’ campaign has had his say on a potential transfer, lauding Vlahovic’s talent in the process.
“Vlahovic is a quality player who can easily fit into Arteta’s system”, Lauren told Ladbrokes ahead of the launch of its 5-a-side Bet on Tottenham vs Arsenal.
“If Arsenal want to increase their chances of securing a Champions League spot this season – something I believe is very important for the club – then the striker situation needs addressing.
“Either we resolve the situation with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang or we bring someone in who can get 10-12 goals between now and the end of the season
“‘First of all, I think it’s important to talk with Aubameyang, to try and get him back on board.
“If the club cannot resolve that issue, then we should be looking at another target in this transfer window, just to be sure that there is enough depth and quality at that end of the pitch. The midfield players have been adding goals, but they need another striker to help guarantee that Champions League place.”
