Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit sends strong warning to Mikel Arteta over Bukayo Saka’s future

Emmanuel Petit has warned Mikel Arteta not to place too much pressure on Arsenal youngster Bukayo Saka next season.

The versatile wideman enjoyed a breakout campaign for the Gunners in the 2020/21 season despite a difficult time for the club.

The 19-year-old scored seven goals and notched nine assists in all competitions, becoming one of the first names on the Arsenal teamsheet.

That form was rewarded this summer with Saka having been named as the club’s Player of the Season, as well as being handed a place in England’s Euro 2020 squad.

Former Gunner Petit has been full of praise for the youngster’s displays last season but has told Arteta to be wary of handing him too much responsibility too soon at the Emirates Stadium.

Talking to Gooner, the Frenchman said: “For the last two seasons he has been one of the best players. He’s got a bright future in front of him.”

“Saka is too young to carry the team on his shoulders,” Petit continued. “It should be somebody else, he should keep on learning and improving so he can become one of the most important players in the Premier League.

The summer window is officially open, and it’s going to be tough to keep up with the comings and goings in and out of the Emirates.

“He has the quality, but giving him the responsibility of the team is very dangerous. He needs to be surrounded by experienced players, not just the ones that are living a dream being in Arsenal’s dressing room.”

Saka has now gone on to make 88 appearances in all competitions so far throughout his fledgling career, netting 11 goals.

He scored his first goal for England a few weeks ago in a friendly against Austria ahead of Euro 2020.
