Arsenal midfielder issues fresh update on his future as he reveals transfer ‘dream’

Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira has admitted that he will discuss a potential move away from north London this summer.

The Uruguayan midfielder spent the entirety of the 2020/21 campaign out on loan at Spanish giants Atletico Madrid after falling out of favour under Gunners boss Mikel Arteta.

He seems unlikely to have a future at the Emirates, with speculation having linked the 25-year-old with a summer move to Argentine giants Boca Juniors.

Whilst Torreira has made it clear that he intends to honour his current Arsenal deal, he also conceded that conversations have been planned concerning where his future employment lies.

He said: “I have a contract for two more years with Arsenal, but I’m going to talk to my representative about my future after Copa America.

“I do not rule out any options, obviously I want to feel important, but now the most important thing is the national team.

“I’ll be clear. I’ve always dreamed of playing in Boca but now is not the time I belong to Arsenal and I have two years left on my contract.

“I do not rule out continuing to play in Atleti.”

Should Torreira return to Arsenal, he would be bringing with him a La Liga winners’ medal having won the Spanish top-flight with Atletico Madrid.

The midfielder made 26 appearances for Diego Simeone’s men throughout the campaign, scoring just one goal.

Despite earning a medal throughout the campaign, the former Sampdoria man was rarely used in the closing months of the season, not playing a minute in any of Atleti’s final five league matches.

Torreira, who has previously spoken about a return to Argentina following the passing of his mother, originally signed for Arsenal in the summer of 2018 for £27million from Sampdoria, signing a five-year deal in the process.

He has so far appeared on 89 occasions for the Gunners and lifted the FA Cup last season.
