Arsenal midfielder linked with £9m transfer as Mikel Arteta left ‘upset’ over £34m deal

Here is your Arsenal morning digest on Wednesday, August 18.

Elneny wanted by Besiktas

According to Turkish outlet Haberturk, Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny is wanted by Besiktas this month.

Elneny, who is in the final 12 months of his current contract at the Emirates Stadium, is valued at just £9million on Transfermarkt.

The 29-year-old spent the 2019/20 season on loan with the Turkish club and Besiktas have been encouraged to try and sign the out-of-favour Gunners man, the report claims.

football.london reported earlier this year that Arsenal were expected to resume contract talks with the Egypt international this summer after pausing negotiations in April.

Arteta left ‘upset’ over Abraham move

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has been left ‘upset’ with his club’s inability to sign Tammy Abraham this summer.

Abraham completed a £34m move from Chelsea to Roma on Tuesday despite the Gunners expressing an interest in the England international.

According to Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol, Arteta was not happy with allowing the 23-year-old striker to join Roma instead of the north London club.

Solhekol said on Sky Sports, via the Express : “Mikel Arteta wanted him, and we have been told today that Mikel Arteta is upset about the fact that Arsenal didn’t get Tammy Abraham and he has gone to Roma.”

Martinez’s agent makes transfer statement

Lautaro Martinez’s agent Alejandro Camano has insisted his client is committed to Inter Milan beyond this summer transfer window, despite links to both Arsenal and Tottenham.

Martinez has been heavily linked with a switch away from the Serie A champions in recent weeks, with Spurs seemingly further along in a possible deal than their north London rivals, the Gunners.

However, because of Romelu Lukaku‘s £97.5m move to Chelsea, Inter are reluctant to sanction a transfer away from the San Siro for the Argentina international before the window closes later this month.

Now, Martinez’s agent, Camano, has all but confirmed where his client’s future will lie beyond August 31.

“Lautaro wants to stay at Inter, he trusts the project and wants to win,” Camano told FC Inter News.

“I will meet with the Inter board on Wednesday to talk about his contract situation. Premier League clubs wanted him but he is ready to stay.”
