Matteo Guendouzi is edging closer to a permanent exit from Arsenal with Marseille in talks over signing the French midfielder, football.london understands.
The 22-year-old spent the 2020/21 season on loan at Hertha Berlin, but fell out of favour towards the end of his spell there with the Bundesliga side opting against making his move permanent.
France Under-21 captain Guendouzi is not seen as part of Gunners boss Mikel Arteta’s long-term plans, and has been told that he can leave the club for the right price this summer.
Guendouzi fell out of favour at the end of the 2019/20 season after a loss to Brighton, where the former Lorient player was at the heart of an altercation with Neal Maupay.
Arteta had also left Guendouzi out of a matchday squad following a disciplinary incident during the Gunners winter training camp in Dubai
“Next, we will sit down with my entourage and people at the club to discuss the future. This summer will be a decisive moment,” Guendouzi told France Football in March.
“I belong to Arsenal for another year. From the moment that I am playing for Arsenal, I will give everything for the club, fans, team, and staff. I will work hard for the shirt as I have always done.”

A goalscoring midfielder is at the top of Arsenal’s wishlist for this summer, while they also want to strengthen in both fullback positions. They remain keen on Brighton star Yves Bissouma, who wants to join the Gunners – but no formal contact has been made with the Seagulls yet.
