Arsenal favourites to sign defender
With David Luiz leaving Arsenal this summer, there are questions over who will be in central defence for the Gunners next season.
Reports in Italy, as per Sport Witness, claim that Gunners manager Mikel Arteta has his eye on Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba.
A £16.2m signing in January 2020, the 22-year-old made 39 appearances across all competitions and has been linked to big clubs such as Manchester United in the past.
And despite previous reports suggesting an ‘astronomical fee’ would be needed to convince Leverkusen to let him go, Arsenal have apparently ‘manifested a strong interest’ in Tapsoba and are ‘favourites’ to sign him.
But with funds expected to be limited for the Gunners, it may be a case of Leverkusen softening their stance.
David Luiz’s imminent departure does leave Arsenal a little short at centre-back, although William Saliba’s return from his loan spell at Nice can help the club save millions this summer.
