Arsenal players’ reaction to Mikel Arteta comments as Gunners make Alexandre Lacazette decision

Here is your Arsenal morning digest on Friday, May 14.

Partey prediction finally coming true

Former Chelsea boss Avram Grant was full of praise for Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey back in October – and it now seems those words are coming true.

“From the first time I watched him, I saw a player who was very strong and good on the ball, who understands the game very well,” Grant told The Sun back in October.

Partey was superb in the Gunners’ 1-0 win against the Blues on Wednesday evening, showing the club’s supporters just why there was so much hype following his signing from Atletico Madrid last summer.

His time in north London has been very up and down, with injury problems perhaps hampering his short career with the club so far.

However, the win against Chelsea showed Partey at his imperious best and Arsenal fans and Mikel Arteta will be desperate for the Ghana international to carry on this form for the remaining games of the season before really kicking on next term.

Holding explains dressing room reaction to Arteta comments

Rob Holding has revealed that him and his Arsenal team-mates have continued to back Arteta after the Gunners boss explained his comments were taken out of context by the media earlier in the week.

However, Holding – who was brilliant in Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Chelsea on Wednesday evening – has explained how the team never doubted Arteta.

The Spanish coach mentioned in the build-up to the game that some of his squad had not reached their full potential this season, but insisted his comments were taken out of context by the press.

“He was really pleased with our attitude and effort,” Holding said.

“I think a bit of stuff came out in the media earlier today and yesterday, he said some of it is not true and is out of context.

“We knew it wasn’t his opinions and we showed that tonight with how we backed him and did what he asked.”

Arsenal make Lacazette decision

Arsenal are ‘highly unlikely’ to offer Alexandre Lacazette a new contract at the Emirates Stadium, according to the Telegraph.

Lacazette has around one year remaining on his Gunners deal – meaning it will be the club’s last chance to cash in on the French striker.

Despite the former Lyon star being one of Arteta’s stronger players this season, the north London club are unlikely to offer him an extension to his existing contract, it has been claimed.

The report says that Atletico Madrid have tried to sign Lacazette in the past and there are likely to be plenty of potential suitors for a forward of his calibre.
