Arsenal have a weekend off away from matches amid the international break but nothing in January has quite gone to plan.
Poor results on the field have been accompanied by a lack of business off it, with the deals in the mid-season window thus far only being outgoing ones.
That has seen Mikel Arteta’s squad significantly depleted and, with further outgoings on the cards, there’s a real need for incoming business to be completed.
Thankfully, the Express reports that Arsenal are optimistic that two pieces of business will be completed before the close of play on Monday.
New England Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner is set to complete a move to the Emirates Stadium, which would open the door for Bernd Leno to complete an exit.
A new central midfielder is also in the offering, with Juventus’ Arthur Melo, Wolves’ Ruben Neves, Leicester’s Youri Tielemans and Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz of interest.
On the matter of Arthur, time is running out for an agreement to be reached with Juventus and TuttoMercatoWeb states a move to Arsenal is ‘currently on standby’.
Juventus have made it clear a move will only be approved if they sign a replacement, while they’re also not happy with Arsenal’s six-month loan proposal.
Finally, Arsenal could also face frustrations in the hunt for Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz as the Telegraph’s John Percy states the club are poised to open discussions for a new contract.
The Brazilian is said to have been subject of a bid from an unnamed club this month and is a player Arteta is keen on.
