Arsenal are reportedly set to miss out on the signing of midfielder Manuel Locatelli with Juventus close to concluding a deal.
The Gunners have been linked with the Italian throughout the summer as they attempt to bolster their midfield.
Their interest was piqued thanks to the 23-year-old’s impressive performances for Italy as they claimed the Euro 2020 title during the summer but it was later revealed that the player himself had turned down a move to the Emirates Stadium.
Sassuolo sporting director Giovanni Carnevali admitted last month that both Juventus and Arsenal were the only teams who had approached the Serie A outfit regarding the midfielder.
Talking to Sky Italia in July, he said: “Juventus are the only Italian club we talked to about Locatelli. We met last week with [Juventus sporting director Federico] Cherubini.
“There is interest from their side, we haven’t explored all the terms and evaluations, but we have an excellent relationship with Juventus so we will continue these talks.
“It’s true that other clubs from abroad are interested, Arsenal are one of these and they are ahead of everyone else because they tabled the only concrete offer we have received so far.”
Despite Arsenal’s confirmed interest, Juventus appear to have won the race for Locatelli’s signature in recent days.
The transfer window is in full swing and things are beginning to ramp up with Edu and Mikel Arteta’s dealings at the Emirates.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Old Lady are set to sign the midfielder on a two-year loan deal until the summer of 2023, when they intend to purchase him outright €35million (£29.8million).
It is also suggested that Locatelli could be in Turin as soon as Wednesday and that he is now closer than ever to becoming a Juventus player.
The news will of course be a bitter pill for Arsenal to swallow as they continue their search for recruits following their disappointing start to the 2021/22 Premier League campaign.
