Arsenal set to land £40m transfer windfall as double signing is confirmed

Here is your Arsenal morning digest for Thursday, June 24.

Midfield trio poised for exits

With this summer’s transfer window acting as the perfect opportunity for Mikel Arteta, the Arsenal manager, to clear the decks and embark on a fresh start, the Gunners chief is trying to make the most of it.

With the likes of David Luiz and Zech Medley having already sealed departures from the Emirates Stadium, several other faces are expected to follow suit.

Amongst them are midfield trio Matteo Guendouzi, Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira.

Xhaka has been on the cusp of joining Roma for several weeks in a deal worth around £17million, whilst Guendouzi and Torreira, who both spent the 2020/21 season out on loan, are the subject of keen interest from Marseille and Lazio.

Should those two seal exits, with Guendouzi initially wanted on loan with an obligation to buy, and Torreira wanted on a permanent basis, the Gunners could land a £40m windfall all in, meaning that could be reinvested into the squad for new signings.

Sterling lauds Saka

Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling heaped praise on the shoulders of Arsenal ace Bukayo Saka following England’s 1-0 win over the Czech Republic on Tuesday evening at Wembley.

Needing to win to top Group D, England got the job done, courtesy of Sterling’s 12th-minute header. But whilst it was the former Liverpool man who made the all-important contribution, it was Saka’s performance that left the nation talking, including Sterling, who admitted that he was “buzzing” for his team-mate.

“I thought Bukayo Saka was brilliant,” said Sterling. “I told him after the game that he got in the pockets of space, drove at people, he was direct and that’s what you need. It’s a credit to him.

“He’s tough, he’s funny, he gets on with everyone in the dressing room – I’m buzzing for him.”

Double signing confirmed

Youngsters Amani Richards and Bradley Ibrahim have signed their first scholarships at Arsenal, it has been revealed.

The youngsters are the latest intake into the club’s academy setup, as the north Londoners look to continue adding flashes of talent to their youth ranks.

However, the level of talent and number of players within the academy has been highlighted by the fact that Richards has taken the number 100 shirt.

It remains to be seen if many youngsters will be sold this summer, or alternatively sent out on loan, in a bid to reduce the size of the squad.
