It is shaping up to be a busy summer for Arsenal.
As well as potential incoming at the Emirates Stadium, there’s expected to be a few departures with football.london revealing last month that the club are open to offers for the likes of Eddie Nketiah and Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
Another player that could bid farewell to Arsenal at the end of the season is experienced defender David Luiz.
The 34-year-old, who arrived from London rivals Chelsea in the summer of 2019, is out of contract next month and is already reportedly planning for a potential exit with his future in doubt.
Furthermore, the report states that Luiz’s services have been offered to a club in MLS (Major League Soccer) but his wage demands mean a move is unlikely.
There is also the option of staying in Europe amid links to Serie A outfit Lazio and the Luiz situation is one of the key things Arteta must resolve before the end of the season.
Should Luiz leave, it is likely Arsenal will dip into the transfer market to sign a replacement.
But do Arsenal need to make a move for another central defender?
Interestingly, some Arsenal fans have already named William Saliba as the perfect long-term replacement for David Luiz if the Brazilian was to leave at the end of the season.
And there’s another defender on the Gunners books that could save them millions in the transfer market.
Konstantinos Mavropanos is also spending the season out on loan, and appears to be open to a permanent move to Stuttgart.
“I can’t say that at the moment (whether I will return). Things can change quickly in football,” he told Bild. “I still have two months here in Stuttgart and would like to end the season with the team as high up as possible.

“The door at VfB is open for me – that’s very good. But I can only really think about the future once we have talks with for the new season.”
With that said, football.londonunderstands Mavropanos will either go out on loan for another campaign, or depart in a permanent move.
Although, given that former head of recruitment Sven Mislintat has tipped the Greece international to be a “great defender” it might be wise for Arteta and technical director Edu to reverse this decision.
If so, the Gunners could save millions on signing a replacement for David Luiz if he leaves.
