Arsenal to step up £60m transfer deal as Edu gets three big incentives to sign star striker – Bailey Keogh

Arsenal have been given a boost in their attempts to sign Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic to solve the club’s attacking problems.

The Gunners have been heavily linked with the striker after his dominant displays in Serie A for the last 18 months, which has excited the Arsenal fan base at the prospect of signing him.

However, since the links emerged, the north London side has received multiple setbacks in their pursuit for the striker which made the deal unlikely.

But, Edu could still have the upper hand in securing the Serbian’s signature, as there are three major reasons, which gives the Gunners the advantage.

Lucas Torreira’s loan at Fiorentina

The Uruguayan midfielder agreed to go on loan to the Italian side in the summer transfer window, as he would have found game time in north London extremely limited.

Arsenal inserted an option-to-buy clause before accepting a loan for the midfielder, which would generate the club around £15m.

Despite Torriera hugely impressing during his loan spell, so far, Fiorentina are yet to activate the option-to-buy clause in his contract.

Edu could use Torreira as a bargaining tool to secure the services of Vlahovic.

Folarin Balogun continues to be linked with a move away from Arsenal.

The Athletic’s David Orstein has reported that Folarin Balogun will be allowed to leave the club in January which will create space in the striker position for Arsenal to strengthen.

Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette’s contracts are set to expire in the summer, and it seems like a certainty that both strikers will be departing.

This will leave Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the only senior striker at the club, meaning Edu will have to strengthen in this position.

Arsenal’s intention to offload strikers certainly means that they are planning to make signing a forward a priority, and Vlahovic will be a topic of discussion.

Vlahovic wants the Premier League

The Serbian international has gained the interest of Premier League’s top clubs such as Manchester City, Spurs and Arsenal.

He is reportedly available for £60m which is certainly affordable for the Gunners.

Fighting off competition for his signature will certainly prove tricky, but Spurs already have Harry Kane in their ranks, and Manchester City have been linked with many other strikers, which could give Arsenal the best chance in the Premier League to sign him.
