Arsenal would be a good option for Sergio Aguero as the soon-to-be ex-Manchester City striker weighs up his options.
That is the view of former Gunners star and Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson who has proposed a summer transfer that could spell bad news for Alexandre Lacazette in particular.
It was announced at the beginning of the week that after a decade of service at the Etihad Stadium, the 32-year-old will depart the current Premier League leaders upon the expiry of his contract in June.
But where next for Aguero?
In terms of potential destinations in the summer, the Argentine will reportedly not be short of offers.
The likes of Barcelona, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, Inter Milan, and even City’s rivals Manchester United have all already been linked.
And Merson believes Arsenal‘s name should be thrown into the mix.
“Will he stay in England or will his next move be abroad? If he stays in England, I think Arsenal would suit the style he would be looking for,” Merson told Sky Sports. “They’d be a good choice.
“Mikel Arteta was at Manchester City and the way Arsenal play; they get around the box and they do create a lot of opportunities. Arsenal do tick that box for Aguero.
“But if does he go abroad where the intensity is not as hard as it is in England?
“He could go somewhere with a different climate and where the games are not as intense as they are in the Premier League.
“That could help with his injury problems as he moves into the latter stages of his career.
“It’s an important move for Aguero as he moves into the final stage of a glittering career.”

Aguero to Arsenal would see the striker reunited with Mikel Arteta whom he worked under whilst the Spaniard was Pep Guardiola’s assistant for three-and-a-half years.
There’s been no indication that the Gunners will pursue a move for Aguero, but if they take Merson’s advice it could be bad news for Lacazette.
The Frenchman is approaching the final 12 months of his contract at the Emirates Stadium and whilst a summer exit would make sense for all parties, football.londonunderstands a concrete decision will be made at the end of the season.
But if Arsenal were to sign Aguero – given his goalscoring record – that would almost certainly make the decision to cash in on Lacazette all the more easier.
