Omar Rekik looks set to make his Arsenal first-team debut in the pre-season friendly against Hibernian on Tuesday evening.
The 19-year-old officially joined the Gunners in the January transfer window, signing from Bundesliga outfit Hertha Berlin, but spent the second half of last season in the U23 set-up.
And he immediately set his sights on proving himself.
“I just take things day by day. I’m here now and I have to work harder and show them what I can do and what I’m capable of,” he said. “When I do this, my qualities will show on the pitch and then hopefully I can get a chance.”
Although, the sole Premier League 2 appearance came at the end of May when he made a substitute appearance in a 2-2 draw against West Ham United.
Well, that’s judging by the teenager’s Instagram stories.
On Monday afternoon Rekik uploaded a photo of him next to Hector Bellerin – linked with a summer exit – with a plane emoji that suggests they are flying to Scotland.
For Arsenal fans who don’t know what to expect from Rekik, he has been described as a “ball playing centre half who can play on both sides”.
So with Gabriel and William Saliba unlikely to play against Hibs, the teenager could line up alongside Rob Holding or Pablo Mari at the heart of the Gunners’ defence.
The summer window is officially open, and it’s going to be tough to keep up with the comings and goings in and out of the Emirates.

Arteta’s side face Rangers at the weekend before flying out to America to play Inter Milan and one of Everton or Millonarios in the Florida Cup.
And there could be another debutant in the shape of Nuno Tavares.
On Saturday, the Gunners confirmed they had bolstered manager Mikel Arteta’s first-team squad by acquiring the Portugal Under-21 international from Benfica for a fee believed to be in the region of £6.8million.
