Harry Kane can achieve everything he wants in the game by staying put at Tottenham Hotspur beyond this summer.
That’s the suggestion from Arsenal legend Arsene Wenger, as speculation over the England captain continues to mount on the back comments made about his future.
Speaking while away on international duty, England captain Kane gave a diplomatic answer when pressed about a potential transfer this summer – but the 27-year-old stopped short of committing his long-term future to Spurs.
Asked earlier this week if he would have to leave Tottenham to win trophies, he said: “I think that’s a hard question to answer right now.
“It’s important that all my focus is on the England games coming up now – and the rest of the season with Spurs and then the Euros. To be thinking about speculation or rumours would be damaging in terms of my own performance.”
Kane added: “I always like to be focused on one goal and one job and that’s to finish strong with Spurs, win these qualifiers with England and hopefully go on and have a great Euros.
“Look, I try to stay out of that speculation as much as possible. I’m fully focused on doing the job on the pitch from now until the end of the summer and then we’ll see where we go from there.”
He remains under contract until 2024, amid reported interest from Manchester City and elite clubs across Europe.
Wenger, though, sees no reason why Kane should look to move on, suggesting that Tottenham can challenge and win the trophies that have so far eluded their star striker.
“Tottenham are in a position where they can be ambitious and we should not maybe judge only today’s situation,” Wenger told beIN Sports.
“Tottenham was top of the league in December. There were a few times when they were top of the league when I was still at Arsenal.
“He is the only one who can assess the situation. A player like that is always solicited by other clubs and always has to assess his situation.
“He was until now a real top leader at Tottenham. He’s a top leader in the English national team. I respect highly his commitment and his quality.
“What I like is he could play basically as a ‘number ten’ – because the quality of his assists and the speed of his vision and the execution of his speed on long balls is exceptional.”

Prior to arriving at Spurs, the Premier League’s top-scorer had a short spell in the youth system at Arsenal.
However, while Wenger was manager during a two-decade reign, the would-be England captain was released and eventually picked up by the Gunners’ arch-rivals.
The rest, as they say, is history as Kane continues to stack up record-breaking figures in front of goal.
