Aston Villa fans hijack Emile Smith Rowe social media post amid Arsenal transfer talk

Aston Villa fans have hijacked Arsenal’s social media post regarding Emile Smith Rowe after talk of Villa making a move for the English playmaker.

Smith Rowe enjoyed a hugely impressive breakout 2020/21 season with the Gunners, notching four goals and eight assists across all competitions despite rarely featuring for the first team before Christmas.

His impressive displays saw him become a regular in the starting XI towards the end of last term and the club have been trying to tie him down to a new long-term contract considering his current deal expires in just two years.

However, Aston Villa have been trying to prize the youngster away from the Emirates this summer and have seen two bids rejected in recent weeks – with some reports claiming they may return with a third offer of £35million.

Still, the Gunners remain confident that Smith Rowe will sign a new long-term contract with the club, football.london understands but this hasn’t stopped Villa fans from flocking to Arsenal’s Twitter mentions to tell him to move to the midlands.

Former Villa defender Alan Hutton has claimed that Arsenal fans would be extremely frustrated if the Birmingham-based side did end up signing Smith-Rowe.

“I thought they’d [Villa] put in another bid and it looks like it’s coming”, the Scot told Football Insider.

“I just don’t know where Arsenal are at, at the moment. I’m kind of on the fence.

“I was thinking are they going to let him go? The fans will go mental so I’m in the middle at the moment. If he does leave Arsenal, wow. The fallout from that I think would be absolutely phenomenal.

The summer window is officially open, and it’s going to be tough to keep up with the comings and goings in and out of the Emirates.

“It just shows you there’s a shift in big clubs at the moment. Obviously, Aston Villa are throwing about their weight.

“They’re not scared to put their money where their mouth is and they’re just attacking it.”

Villa bought the Gunners’ backup goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez last summer for a fee thought to be in the region of £20million and Dean Smith’s side also poached Arsenal target Emiliano Buendia from Norwich this summer.
