Chelsea wing-back Marcos Alonso has been linked with a move to La Liga side Barcelona, according to recent reports.

The 30-year-old moved to Stamford Bridge in 2016 from Fiorentina for a reported fee of £20million.

He was a key figure under new Tottenham boss Antonio Conte on his arrival at the club, winning the Premier League in 2017.

The left-wing-back came in to fill that role in the Italian manager’s three at the back, offering key width along with the revitalisation of Victor Moses on the right side.According to Mundo Deportivo, per Sport Witness, new Barcelona manager Xavi is eyeing a move for Alonso in January.

The report claims that the La Liga side are hoping to add competition in depth for their full-backs following the return of Dani Alves to the club.

It also states that the Spanish international is a “recognised culé follower”, meaning he is a fan of the club.

The player’s father, Marcos Alonso Peña, also played for the club in his day. He broke the Spanish transfer record when he moved to Barcelona from Atletico Madrid in 1982.

The 30-year-old’s current deal with the Blues runs until 2023, but he has been second choice to England international Ben Chilwell as of late.

As a result, he has been mainly featuring in Champions League ties so far, as well as the League Cup.

Thomas Tuchel may have a decision to make over Alonso’s future at the club with his contract dwindling as well as the potential interest reported from Spain.
