Ben White makes honest Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang admission after Arsenal axe

Arsenal defender Ben White has admitted him and his team-mates “miss” Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after being axed from the squad.

The Gunners confirmed last week that the 32-year-old forward was no longer club captain after yet another discipline issue. Aubameyang is now training away from the first-team following the latest incident.

football.london understands Aubameyang is now assessing his options ahead of the January transfer window, with Arsenal understood to be open to offers for their former captain.

Mikel Arteta remains coy on the whole situation and is yet to reveal when the Gabon international will return to the first-team frame at Arsenal – as life carries on without the former Borussia Dortmund attacker.

Now, White has admitted that him and his Gunners team-mates are missing Aubameyang.

When asked by talkSPORT if Aubameyang’s absence has been a distraction to Arsenal, White said: “It hasn’t really looked it on the scoresheet. We’ve been playing well.

“Obviously it’s disappointing for Auba but we’ve all got our heads down and we’re working hard. He’s a really nice guy, we all miss him, but it is what it is.”

football.london understands that White, along with Alexandre Lacazette, Martin Odegaard and Kieran Tierney are the four main contenders to replace Aubameyang as club captain, with Arteta currently pondering the big decision.

White, when asked about possibly becoming the permanent skipper, said: “I have never done it before, but it would obviously be an absolute honour to be captain.

“I think I have got some of the qualities to be captain, but we will see in time.”

White has been impressive for the north Londoners since signing from Brighton for £50million over the summer transfer window and the England international has insisted he has not felt the pressure that comes with such a lucrative price tag.

He said: “It is a weird one – I have been asked this question (about the pressure) before and I have spoken to my mum about it, she asked me the same thing.

“It is not really anything to do with me. I do not decide the price tag, it is not anything that I am involved with.

“So it is out of my control, and if it is out of my control there is no point worrying about it.”

White has formed quite the partnership in defence with Gabriel Magalhaes and he is likely to be involved on Boxing Day as Arsenal make the trip to Norwich City in the Premier League.
