Berge and Bissouma latest, Smith Rowe contract situation and Arsenal’s summer transfer plans

Arsenal’s season may not be over but thoughts are already turning to their plans in the transfer market this summer.

The Gunners were eliminated from the Europa League last week by Villarreal and back-to-back wins over West Brom and Chelsea have done little to soften the blow of the likelihood that they won’t be playing European football for the first time in a quarter of a century.

Despite some heavy scrutiny over his job after an underwhelming season on the pitch, Mikel Arteta appears to retained the support of the club’s staff off it and is expected to be given the coming window to overhaul his squad.

There are plenty of questions over exactly how he will do this though given that money at the club is tight following the ongoing financial impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, despite promises from Stan and Josh Kroenke that they intend to invest.

Yves Bissouma and Sander Berge are among the long list of players who have been linked with helping Arteta to improve his options in his side but with the hefty price tags players like that are likely to command, it is thought that Arsenal will have to offload some players to help fund the rebuild.

There are also questions over their ability to keep certain members of the current squad with contract discussions for Kieran Tierney and Emile Smith Rowe set to take place this summer.
