Tottenham are pressing ahead with their summer transfer business, with a deal set to be struck with Sevilla involving Bryan Gil and Erik Lamela.
The two players are said to be on the verge of swapping places according to reports, with Gil heading to London while Lamela joins Sevilla in a swap deal, which has likely emerged as a consequence of the global pandemic.
Spurs supporters will know all about the player who is departing, but what type of player is Gil and what might he offer for Nuno Espirito Santo?
Gil is widely regarded as one of the top prospects in Spain, having spent the past year on loan at Eibar, who eventually suffered relegation.
Still just 20 years-old, the youngster amassed 26 starts in La Liga last season and was primarily deployed as a left-sided winger depending on the formation selected by Eibar.
As a wide player, Gil is able to showcase exactly what he’s good at, with the youngster proving to be quite a tricky and direct customer for opponents to handle.
He accumulated 72 successful dribbles in the Spanish top-flight last season, which placed him behind only four players: Lionel Messi, Javi Galan, Gerard Moreno and Ousmane Dembele.
Three of those four players played more minutes than Gil, and he also exhibited his tendency to carry the ball using his speed and mobility; the Sevilla prospect ranked 10th in the division for progressive carries, which indicates his dynamism on the ball.
A creative left-footed player, Gil has been used almost as a traditional winger over the course of the past year rather than an inside forward, which could change for Spurs given how few Premier League teams at the top of the table rely on crosses in the modern game.
The club are gaining a big talent who is unpredictable and quite explosive in possession at times, although he doesn’t yet tick the end-product box having posted just six goals and four assists since his La Liga debut, covering around 3,000 minutes.

Goals and assists can come with time, and the former in particular should increase if he’s deployed as a wide forward rather than a winger next season, although that tactical decision will rest with Espirito Santo.
Lamela is perhaps more readymade to deliver, but Gil is nine years younger and could be deemed as more difficult to defend against.
Ultimately, although Gil isn’t the most high-profile name, the deal appears very sensible with the Spanish prospect possessing enough potential to offer long-term perks and a high upside.
