Calum Chambers has sent Arsenal fans an emotional tribute after completing a surprise move to Aston Villa on Thursday evening.

Chambers struggled for game time this season, failing to play a single Premier League minute since the Gunners were thrashed 5-0 by Manchester City back in August.

The move to the west Midlands club seemingly came out of the blue, with little talk of an exit from the Emirates Stadium before the former Southampton ace was announced as a Villa player.

Now, he has taken to social media to send Arsenal supporters a farewell message, thanking former boss Arsene Wenger for bringing him to the club back in the summer of 2014.

His tweet read: “7 years and a lifetime of memories later!! A special thanks to Arsene Wenger for making it possible and all the staff at London Colney.

“Last but not least to all the fans that have supported me, you’ve made this experience one to remember! Calum.”

Chambers arrived at the north London outfit after completing a £16million move from the Saints, showcasing his sky-high potential during his debut campaign.

The versatile defender slotted in at centre-back beside Per Mertesacker or Laurent Koscielny whilst also occasionally operating as a right-back, featuring 36 times across all competitions for the Gunners as he even made his England debut.

However, that was the most he would ever play in a season for Arsenal, enjoying loan spells with Middlesbrough and Fulham before he ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee, spending just under 12 months on the treatment table.

Since then, the 27-year-old was used sparingly by Mikel Arteta, enjoying a solid stint at right-back towards the end of last season before summer signing Takehiro Tomiyasu eventually usurped him in Arteta’s starting XI in September of last year

During his seven-and-a-half-year stint with the Gunners, Chambers made a total of 122 appearances, helping the north Londoners win the FA Cup back in the 2014/15 campaign.
