Celtic boss has already dropped hint on Odsonne Edouard future as Arsenal ‘enter transfer race’

Arsenal have entered the race with Leicester City to sign Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard this summer, according to recent reports.

The Daily Telegraph are reporting that the Gunners are eyeing the French striker after another impressive season with the Hoops – where he has bagged 20 goals during the 2020/21 campaign.

The Foxes were leading the race to sign Edouard, with former Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers keen for a reunion with his old striker.

However, Mikel Arteta also wants Edouard and is reportedly looking to battle Leicester for the signature of the 23-year-old.

Celtic’s interim manager John Kennedy has already dropped a hint over Edouard’s future, with the temporary boss admitting that there will come a point where he could be on his way out of the club.

Kennedy said: “When you have talented players, there’s always interest.

“So I’ve no doubt there will be interest in Odsonne, as there was last season and all the time he’s been here, but ultimately the club will do the right thing for themselves.

“We want to keep him for as long as we can because of the talent he’s got.

“But there ultimately comes a point, whether contractually or the player’s motivation, when you have to sit down and address that and that will be done in the summer.”

Edouard has just one year remaining on his contract at Celtic Park, meaning he could be available for as little as £15million in the summer.

The report claims that his asking price was once as high as £40m but due to his contract situation, that has been lowered by £25m.

If Edouard does move on, then Celtic will be keen to include a sell-on clause in any contract.

Alexandre Lacazette’s contract in north London is due to expire next summer, meaning the Gunners could look to sell the striker this summer, which could see Arteta and Edu look for another centre-forward.
