Celtic transfer bargain Edu could land for Arsenal who Kieran Tierney labelled a ‘hero’

Arsenal could reportedly land a bargain free transfer in the summer with Celtic star Ryan Christie becoming available earlier than expected.

Plenty of clubs will be scouring the market for potential bargains this summer following a year of declining profits due to the pandemic, and Arsenal will be no different.

With just a month left of the current season and Mikel Arteta’s team languishing around mid-table, thoughts have begun to turn to who might be brought in to help improve the side.

And one target that has reportedly cropped up is Celtic midfielder Christie. The Gunners were linked with a move for the 26-year-old back in January along with a host of Premier League clubs.

However, no deal came about with the Gunners concluding deals for Martin Odegaard and Mat Ryan on loan.

The Mail on Sunday now state that Christie’s current contract with Celtic only runs until January 2022.

That means he will be able to sign a pre-contract agreement in the summer before completing a potential free transfer midway through the 2021/22 season.

A free transfer for a player ready to slot into a Premier League side would naturally come with plenty of competition, but should the midfielder slot into Arteta’s plans, they could have an advantage over some rivals for his signature.

Christie would certainly be well-known to current Arsenal star Kieran Tierney, who previously labelled the midfielder a “hero” following his goal in Scotland’s Euro 2020 qualifier against Serbia back in November.

Injuries aside, Tierney’s time in North London has proved hugely successful so far with fans taking to the Scottish left-back.
