Another day and another batch of Chelsea pre-season training photos have dropped from Cobham as training carries on its merry way.
Having had a double session yesterday with 29 players available to head coach Thomas Tuchel, the same cohort of Blues were back at the training ground on Wednesday to continue their preparations ahead of their first friendly this weekend.
Chelsea will take on Peterborough United at Cobham on Saturday, with the match taking place behind closed doors and the game is not expected to be streamed live by the club as it remains very much closed to the public.
Ross Barkley returned to training with the main group on Tuesday having been in the gym for the previous couple of days and on Wednesday, there were no new faces to report.
All players will be hoping they have forced their way into Tuchel’s reckoning in pre-season’s early stages and plenty of them should get minutes for the match against the Posh this weekend.
The Blues will then head to Ireland next week and have a friendly out there during a week-long training camp before returning to England and facing Bournemouth in their second pre-season game.
The photos don’t give too much away but here is your daily update on things we spotted from the latest photo haul released by the club.
Tuchel and Loftus-Cheek
What the duo were talking about, we don’t know, maybe they were catching up on what they their respective summer breaks were like. But it was probably about tactics.
Loftus-Cheek is determined to impress Tuchel this pre-season as he is arguably entering the last chance saloon for his Blue career, which was wrecked by a serious Achilles injury in 2019, followed by an underwhelming loan spell at Fulham last season.
The midfielder is almost certain to play some part against Peterborough this weekend at Cobham.
Charly Musonda continues his comeback
The Blues attacker hasn’t played consecutive games for four years following a series of injuries, the most recent one a serious knee problem.
Many Blues fans were thrilled to see Musonda report back to Cobham on Monday for his first day and the Blues are seemingly making a big deal of his return as they are releasing plenty of pictures of the 24-year-old with the main photo attached to this piece.
He, like many of the academy graduates current training with Tuchel and the few senior players, have a big summer ahead of them if they are to force their way into the first team reckoning this season.
The new Premier League ball
It’s something we haven’t mentioned but the players have been training with the new Nike Premier League football since the returned to Cobham.
It’s a rather bright mish-mash of white, black and orange. You certainly won’t miss it if it’s hurtling towards your face after a teammate has booted it in your direction.
The latest incarnation of the Flight ball marks Nike’s 22nd campaign as the official ball supplier for the Premier League and the design’s pattern inspired by the Premier League being one of the most exciting and connected leagues in the world.
