Chelsea defender reveals transfer snub as Thomas Tuchel handed big injury boost ahead of Burnley

Here are your football.london Chelsea morning headlines for Saturday, October 6.

Matt Miazga’s Chelsea transfer snub revealed

Chelsea defender Matt Miazga has revealed he wanted a permanent move to Anderlecht this summer, but the Blues’ transfer demands ruined any hope of that happening, Sport Witness reports.

“I wanted stability,” he told HLN, relayed by Voetbalkrant.

“Anderlecht was an attractive option. I was important, the coach is fantastic and the club is up there.

“I spoke with Vincent [Kompany] and Peter [Verbeke], but it was quickly clear that it would not be easy to buy me, which is what Anderlecht wanted.

“Chelsea asked too much money, Anderlecht looked for and found alternatives – I can’t blame the club management. That’s just how the football world works.”

Thomas Tuchel handed double injury boost

Thomas Tuchel has all but confirmed N’Golo Kante and Mason Mount will both be in the Chelsea matchday squad for the Premier League clash with Burnley this weekend but there are doubts still over the pair.

Kante missed the Champions League victory against Malmo in midweek as the Blues remain very cautious with his load management after sustaining a couple of injuries already this season. The midfielder was left at home for recovery reasons having played three days previously against Newcastle.

Kante has still be called up for the France squad for the upcoming international break. Tuchel wasn’t asked directly about the French midfielder but didn’t list him in the players who will be missing out.

Mount has missed the last two Chelsea games through illness with wisdom teeth but was pictured back in training earlier this week and Tuchel has confirmed that the England international is available for selection this weekend.

Tuchel said on Mount at his pre-match press conference: “It’s a tricky one. Mason was ill but the reason was his wisdom tooth, this was the reason for the feeling, a bit of an infection.

“He was back in training and lost a bit of weight as he couldn’t eat properly. He takes medication and let’s see. He is in the squad for tomorrow, can play some minutes, but we will need to wait for the reaction because it seems proper treatment has to be done.

Chelsea have their own Lionel Messi and Kevin De Bruyne

Chelsea have discovered their own Lionel Messi and Kevin De Bruyne in the form of winger Callum Hudson-Odoi, who currently ranks higher than the pair in the frequency of goalscoring chances being created in this year’s Champions League.

Hudson-Odoi, 20, has been one of the few Blues players that has taken their chance since key duo Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner picked up injuries in the first Malmo game.

One metric that has been used to compare the attacker to the aforementioned world-class pair is the frequency of goalscoring chances that the versatile winger has provided in the Champions League this season.

According to WhoScored.com, the 20-year-old has created a goalscoring chance every 24 minutes in Europe – which is more frequent than both Messi and De Bruyne.
