Chelsea handed double transfer blow as Barcelona and Atletico Madrid make swap deal decision

Chelsea have been credited with an interest in Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez and Barcelona attacker Antoine Griezmann in recent weeks.

The La Liga pair are both outstanding players for their respective clubs and their futures appear to be uncertain.

Now, according to Italian football journalist, Fabrizio Romano, Saul and Griezmann could be about to swap clubs – dealing the Blues with a double transfer blow.

The tweet from Romano says that the La Liga giants are in ‘advanced talks’ for a swap deal between Saul and Griezmann, with both players given the ‘green light’ in recent hours, but there could be a stumbling block.

Barca are reportedly demanding cash plus Saul for Griezmann, which could make negotiations between the two rivals a tad more complicated.

Saul has been the man with a more intense link to Stamford Bridge, with Thomas Tuchel reportedly a fan of the Spain midfielder.

And, according to Spanish outlet AS in late-June, the Atleti star was given permission to leave the club after receiving a big cash injection recently.

Since then, Diego Simeone’s side completed the signing of Argentina star Rodrigo De Paul, who plays in a similar position to Saul, paving the way for him to leave the Spanish capital this summer.

Griezmann, meanwhile, has been linked with a move away from Barcelona because of the club’s financial situation at the moment.

The France international still has three years remaining on his deal in Catalonia, meaning the club are in a strong position in that regard.

However, the latest speculation suggests Griezmann could be making a return to Atletico, just over two years after leaving the Wanda Metropolitano.
