Chelsea could be in line to receive a major boost in their bid to sign Erling Haaland with the news that Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly interested in signing Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian striker arrived at Stamford Bridge last summer for a club record fee of £97.5million but has struggled to justify his enormous price tag.
Lukaku was signed to spearhead a Premier League title challenge but has only scored five top flight goals this season, with the Blues a distant third to Manchester City and Liverpool. The 28-year-old’s lack of form has seen him dropped in favour of Kai Havertz in recent weeks.
After failing to have the desired impact in west London, Chelsea could be tempted to cash in on Lukaku and according to But, PSG are interested in acquiring his services. The Ligue 1 leaders are set for a major summer overhaul after failing to make it to the latter stages of the Champions League, coupled with the fact that Kylian Mbappe looks set to leave when his contract expires in June.
Lukaku has reportedly been identified as a replacement for the Frenchman, who is widely expected to join Real Madrid in the summer. If PSG sign the Chelsea striker the money generated from his sale could be put towards buying Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.
The Norway striker is expected to leave Signal Iduna Park in the summer, and due to a clause in his contract the 21-year-old could be available for a cut-price fee of around €75million (£62.6million). Haaland has struggled with injuries this season but has still scored an impressive 23 goals in 25 appearances across all competitions for Dortmund.
He is the kind of marquee signing that could help to bridge the gap between Thomas Tuchel’s side and the Premier League’s top two. However, under the terms of the sanctions imposed on Chelsea by the UK government they will be unable to sign new players until they’re no longer under the ownership of Roman Abramovich.
