Rival fans have been reacting to Chelsea’s latest transfer blow.
The Blues today learned summer target Erling Haaland may not be an option despite reportedly placing the striker at the very top of their shortlist ahead of next season.
According to Bild, Chelsea could be all-but out of the race to sign Haaland because the Borussia Dortmund star would like to sign for an ‘absolutely top club’ and not make an ‘intermediate step’.
That could narrow down Haaland‘s list of options to very few clubs given only a handful of teams could afford to sign him this summer in the first place.
Having only signed for Dortmund in 2020, Haaland is expected to command a transfer fee of more than £100million this summer with his £68m release clause not coming into force until 2022.
Chelsea were one of the few clubs who could afford that fee, but if indeed that Bild claim is true, Haaland could be left with a list of three at best.
Manchester United, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are the obvious remaining clubs, with Barcelona unlikely to be financially capable given their debts, but it’s not just those fans who see the funny side of the report.
United fans and supporters of other clubs have enjoyed the thought of Haaland dismissing Chelsea as a ‘top club’ and have taken to social media to have a dig.
Here’s what some fans had to say on Twitter.
Haaland has been in sensational form again this season as his stock and transfer value continues to rise.
The Norwegian has scored 27 goals in 27 games across all competitions, also racking up eight assists despite Dortmund only sitting in fifth place in Bundesliga as things stand.
The 20-year-old is under contract with Dortmund until 2024, but the chances of him seeing out that contract appear to be extremely slim.
