Chelsea news: Carragher’s warning on future as Thomas Tuchel provides positive injury update

Here is your Chelsea morning digest on Saturday, March 5.

Carragher disagrees with Neville over post-Abramovich era

Prior to Chelsea’s FA Cup win against Luton Town on Wednesday night, Roman Abramovich announced that he would be selling the west London club after almost two decades in charge.

Abramovich confirmed that the Blues were set to be put up for sale in an official statement to the club’s website.

Despite this, Gary Neville argues that Chelsea will be able to cope in the absence of the Russian billionaire.

“The reality is Chelsea will be okay and obviously he’s got the money,” Neville told Sky Sports News.

Jamie Carragher, on the other hand, believes that the post-Abramovich era could mean there won’t be any quick fixes should the club continue to make expensive mistakes in the market.

“It may sound premature to say the party is over once Abramovich completes his sale, but the next revolution at Stamford Bridge will involve readjusting to a world in which Chelsea have joined the ranks of most Premier League clubs – knowing if they make expensive mistakes there is no quick fix,” he wrote.

Armando Broja praise

Arsenal hero Martin Keown has showered Chelsea loanee Armando Broja with immense praise, and believes he is a ‘top, top player’.

The former Gunners central defender was impressed with the 20-year-old’s finish against West Ham in the FA Cup last Wednesday and believes that Chelsea will ‘want him back’ after this performance.

“Pace, power and then the finesse at the end of it… Look at that for a cultured finish,” Keown told BBC Sport.

“This is a player. Top, top player. Going back to Chelsea, clearly they want him back after this. So impressive.”

Triple injury boost

Hakim Ziyech, Trevoh Chalobah and Thiago Silva all missed the FA Cup fifth-round win over Luton Town in midweek but were pictured in training at Cobham on Thursday, with Thomas Tuchel confirming yesterday that the absent trio should be available for selection again.

“Hakim (Ziyech) was in training, seemed good so hopefully he can come back. Reece James did training yesterday so no problems so far, no reactions after his two matches. It’s good,” the German said.

“The guys who were not with us in Luton Town because of minor injuries – Trevoh (Chalobah) and Thiago (Silva) – were back in training yesterday and seem good to go.”
