The big news this evening isn’t Chelsea’s 0-0 draw with Brighton and Hove Albion at Stamford Bridge. How can it be given the news the club is preparing to pull out of the European Super League less than 48 hours after their place in the breakaway competition was confirmed.
A protest from around 1,000 Blues supporters prior to the game resulted in Petr Cech coming to speak to the crowd, the team coach being delayed and kick-off being pushed back until 8.15pm.
Tonight’s game was instantly forgettable. Chelsea were poor and Brighton had the better chances to score. But the events of tonight will be remembered.
We’ll hear from Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel very shortly on the events prior to kick-off, Chelsea’s decision, and the stalemate against the Seagulls.
