Chelsea press conference LIVE: Thomas Tuchel on Romelu Lukaku, Aston Villa win and Thiago Silva

Hello and welcome along to live coverage of Thomas Tuchel’s post-match press conference after Chelsea’s 3-1 win at Aston Villa, inspired by half time substitute Romelu Lukaku.

The Blues head coach recalled only Callum Hudson-Odoi to the starting eleven after his Covid-19 enforced absence, which ended on Thursday as he returned to training as Christian Pulisic once again started as a false nine Romelu Lukaku named on the bench after his isolation period also came to an end.

The Blues were pretty awful in the first half and were very fortunate to head into the break level at 1-1.

Reece James’ own goal had put Villa ahead as he deflected Matt Targett’s cross, looping over Edouard Mendy in the Chelsea goal to give the home side a deserved lead.

Just a couple of minutes later, the visitors were level from the spot after Matty Cash’s silly challenge on Callum Hudson-Odoi in the box. The Italian scored his 22nd penalty in his last 24 attempts from 12 yards to haul his side level.

Tuchel introduced Lukaku at half time and the Belgian completely changed the game, heading the visitors in front 12 minutes after coming on as he steered home Hudson-Odoi’s cross.

The Blues saw out the game very well with some expert game management but will have been concerned to see Thiago Silva limp off early in the second half while Jorginho also needed treatment late on.

They added the gloss onto the game in injury time when Lukaku’s brutally rampant run was halted, ilegally, by Ezri Konsa for another penalty and Jorginho did the honours from the spot.

We will be joined by Tuchel shortly and you can follow what he has to say live with us.
