Chelsea sent double transfer message as Borussia Dortmund issue fresh Erling Haaland update

Here is your Chelsea morning digest on Friday, July 30.

Johnson makes Chelsea transfer prediction

Former Chelsea defender Glen Johnson thinks his old club will sell both Tammy Abraham and Callum Hudson-Odoi this summer for the right price.

Abraham has emerged as a target for Arsenal recently, while Hudson-Odoi has also been linked with an exit from Stamford Bridge.

Johnson, who played 71 times for the Blues, thinks the club’s England duo could be on their way out of west London in the coming weeks.

Speaking to BettingOdds.com, the former Liverpool right-back said: ““I think if they get the right offer for Callum Hudson-Odoi or Tammy Abraham this summer then they will sell them. Definitely.”

Blues’ Lukaku plan revealed

According to Italian football journalist Alfredo Pedulla, via Sempre Inter, Chelsea could include striker Timo Werner in a player-plus-cash deal for Romelu Lukaku this summer.

football.london understands that Erling Haaland is the Blues’ priority this summer, but the Borussia Dortmund star is set to cost way over £100million, meaning the west London club could look elsewhere for cheaper alternatives.

One man that has been linked is Lukaku, formerly of Chelsea, following a fantastic 2020/21 season for club and country.

Werner could be included in any bid for the Belgium international, with Sky Germany reporting recently that the Blues are open to selling the German striker despite just one season in London.

Dortmund chief issues Haaland update

Borussia Dortmund’s CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke is adamant Haaland will stay with the Bundesliga club this summer despite heavy interest from Chelsea.

The Blues are determined to sign the 21-year-old striker this summer, but could face mass competition for his signature.

The Norway international reportedly has a £70m release clause in his Dortmund contract, but it does not come into action until next summer.

Either way, Dortmund chief Watzke has insisted that Haaland, as well as his club team-mate Julian Brandt, will not be leaving Signal Iduna Park in the coming weeks.

Watzke said: “It is pretty clear to me that Erling Haaland will stay at Dortmund, just as Julian Brandt will remain.

“I tend to say that every day but no one really seems to listen as I hear something new every week.”
