Chelsea set asking price as Marina Granovskaia can seal transfer for Adama Traore alternative

Borussia Monchengladbach director of sport Max Eberl has admitted that an offer of around €40million would be enough to tempt them into the possibility of selling winger Jonas Hofmann this summer.

The winger, who scored six goals and claimed 11 assists in 24 Bundesliga appearances this season, has frequently been linked with a move to Chelsea in recent months, dating to as far back as February.

Blues head coach Thomas Tuchel, who guided his side to their first UEFA Champions League crown in nine years last weekend, beating Manchester City 1-0 in the final in Porto, is keen on strengthening his squad this summer after arriving towards the end of the January transfer window.

It is understood that Tuchel wants to add three new faces to his squad in an attempt to turn them back into genuine Premier League title contenders. Whilst a striker is at the very top of his wish list, signing a new right-sided defender and central-midfielder are also on his to-do list.

In Hofmann, Chelsea could land the right-sided player that they are looking for.

Although he is not a strictly a defender, he does have the ability to play a wing-back role if required. In his 3-4-2-1 system, Tuchel likes to see his wing-backs get up and down the pitch, suggesting that the role could be tailor-made for Hofmann to thrive in.

However, if Tuchel is to be reunited with the former Borussia Dortmund man at Stamford Bridge, a deal will not come cheap, with Monchengladbach reluctant to let him go. However, if a big-money bid is submitted for his services then the German outfit may have to say their goodbyes to the 28-year-old.

“We live in a time when you can’t rule anything out,” Eberl told Bild am Sonntag, as quoted by bulinews.com. “We certainly don’t want to sell Jonas.

“But if at some point a club is offering €40million for Jonas, we can’t say we’re not interested.”

Hofmann, who has been on Monchengladbach’s books since 2016, is one of two names to be closely linked with a move to Stamford Bridge recently as a potential option to bolster the right wing-back berth, with the other being Wolverhampton Wanderers ace Adama Traore.

Reports last week claimed that Tuchel had taken a keen interest in the former Middlesbrough man as an option to challenge Reece James for a place in the side.

Traore is also valued north of £30million, meaning there could be little to separate the two players in terms of how much it would cost for Chelsea to sign either of them this summer.
