The former Manchester United player made a £98million switch from Inter to Chelsea this summer, breaking the Blues’ club transfer record as Thomas Tuchel targets a Premier League title charge.
Chelsea got off to a near-perfect start to their campaign with a 3-0 win over Palace at Stamford Bridge without Lukaku, who was unavailable despite sealing his move to Chelsea during the week.
Goals from Marcos Alonso, Christian Pulisic and Trevoh Chalobah were enough to seal a win for the Blues as Patrick Vieira’s first competitive game in charge of the Eagles went badly.
Vieira will take charge of first league match at Selhurst Park against Brentford at the weekend, and with fans back in the stadium in full force he will be hoping for much better against the newly-promoted Premier League side.
Selhurst Park is famous for creating a great atmosphere despite a smaller capacity than many rivals, and Lukaku admitted that he enjoys visiting south London.
“I like Selhurst Park! It’s a nice environment,” Lukaku told Chelsea’s official website.
“It’s the only stadium in England where it’s like European style. I like it, I like it! I’ve scored a few goals there too.”
The Belgian striker still has a bit of time to wait until he gets to visit SE25 with Chelsea, with the league fixture at Selhurst Park pencilled in for the middle of February next year. Palace fans will be hoping he’s a little more lacking in form than on previous visits.
