Chelsea striker close to sealing transfer as Sevilla boss issues Jules Kounde update

Here is your Chelsea morning digest on Tuesday, August 17.

Batshuayi nears Besiktas move

According to Turkish journalist Sercan Dikme, Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi flew to Turkey yesterday evening to complete a move to Besiktas.

Batshuayi is now into the final 12 months of his contract with the Blues and is expected to depart this month after an unsuccessful five-year spell in west London.

The Belgium international could hand Chelsea a decent windfall if he does indeed move to Besiktas, with the 27-year-old being valued at £9million.

Sevilla boss offers Kounde update

Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui has not seen any indication from Jules Kounde that he wishes to leave the club despite interest from Chelsea.

Kounde is the Blues’ top defensive target this month as Thomas Tuchel looks to bolster his back-line.

However, Lopetegui has said that the 22-year-old has not shown or expressed his desire to leave the Seville-based club before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

“I don’t have the feeling that this is his last game [Sunday’s 3-0 win against Rayo Vallecano]. There is nothing that tells me that he will not continue with us,” he said.

“He played a very good game. Things can happen until 31st August. We need to strengthen positions and we are working on it.”

Lukaku set for second Blues debut

Tuchel has confirmed that Romelu Lukaku is set to make his second Chelsea debut against Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

Lukaku, who was signed from Inter Milan on Thursday evening for a club-record £97.5m, missed Saturday’s win against Crystal Palace as he was not registered in time to play.

However, Tuchel, when speaking about this weekend’s all-London derby against the Gunners, delivered an update on the Belgium international.

He said to the club’s official website: “We expect Romelu to finish quarantine in time to be able to join team training on Tuesday, because Monday is our day off.

“So we will try to prepare him to play against Arsenal and hopefully he can be on the pitch.”
