Chelsea told how much they will need to pay to beat Manchester United in race for Declan Rice

Chelsea have been told that they will need to pay between £100 million and £120 million to land West Ham midfielder Declan Rice during the summer transfer window.

Rice is set to be one of the most sought after targets come the end of the season, with the Hammers man going from strength to strength under David Moyes this term.

Chelsea are long-term admirers of their former youth product, with Thomas Tuchel looking to strengthen his midfield options heading into the 2022-23 campaign.

But they will have to fend off interest from a number of rivals, including Manchester United and Manchester City. Whoever wins the race will need deep pockets, according to former Tottenham defender Michael Dawson.

“Every player his age is going to want to strive to be as successful as he can,” he said during Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports.

“He is sensational and he deserves to play in the Champions League and he’s got the quality too. We’ve seen it for England in the summer and what he does for West Ham. West Ham are still fighting for that top four. They’ve got as good a chance as anyone else.

“But West Ham don’t want to sell him. Of course they don’t. Moyes doesn’t want to sell him. But everyone’s got a price. You’re going to be paying absolute top dollar.

“But if I’m one of the other so-called big teams in there – take him. You’re going to have to pay, probably, one-hundred, £120 million for him.” understands that West Ham have no interest in selling Rice in the summer but would not consider offers of less than £100 million.

Chelsea have shown that they are not afraid to splash big money on a star, with £97.5 million being spent on Romelu Lukaku in the summer transfer window.

But with Roman Abramovich looking to sell the club as soon as possible, it remains to be seen what sort of funds Marina Granovskaia will have at her disposal to negotiate deals come the summer.
